Notification
Once you've finished the set up, your status will show as Ready. It'll change to Active after your first trip.
To check if Drivewise is set up and collecting trips, log in to the Allstate® app. Your Drivewise status will be on the Home screen.
Here's what each status means:
Set up: You need to setup Drivewise.
Set up again: Since you have a new smartphone, you'll need to set up Drivewise again.
Almost there: Looks like your setup was incomplete. Some of the required permissions are missing. Complete the setup to activate Drivewise.
Ready: Drivewise is all set up. Take a trip to start saving.
Needs attention: One or more of your settings still needs attention.
Active: You're all set up and saving with Drivewise.
Off: Go to your settings to turn on Drivewise.
No. When Drivewise is correctly set up in the Allstate® mobile app and the driver status shows as Active, it'll detect trips, even if the app isn't open. Make sure you have cellular service, at least 5% battery power and all settings allowed.
Your location settings must be enabled so Drivewise can detect your trips and give you personalized feedback. This feedback can help you earn more savings at your next policy renewal.
To maximize your savings, enroll all the drivers on your policy in Drivewise and make sure each one takes at least 50 trips. When it's time to renew your policy, we'll review the trips you and your enrolled drivers have taken over the past six months.
Note: Qualifying students who are away at school don't need to take 50 trips within the six months.
Benefits
Crash detection is a free safety feature in the Allstate® app. It relies on sensors in your smartphone to detect major collisions when the vehicle is moving at least 25 mph for over 30 seconds. When it detects that you might've been in a collision, we'll send you a notification to offer help. Crash detection won't detect low-impact accidents like fender-benders or being rear-ended.
For crash detection to work, it needs to be set up on the Allstate app with all required permissions enabled. The phone battery should be charged to at least 25% with adequate cell reception.
Crash detection is meant to connect you with the help you might need, not replace 911. You'll still need to contact emergency services in the event of an accident.
Save more with your safe driving. When you add Drivewise to your policy and at least one enrolled driver takes 50 trips during a driving period, you can:
Earn a discount at renewal
Get a performance rating for your safe driving
A performance rating can help you save even more. To calculate this rating, Drivewise uses a driving score each term.
A driving score is based on info like:
Safe driving speed (staying under speed relative to your local speed limit)
Braking events (braking is defined by how often we detect a short period of rapid deceleration)
Time of day driven (limiting late-night trips. The hours of highest risk are weekdays 11 p.m. – 4 a.m. and weekends 11 p.m. – 5 a.m., weekdays from 12 p.m. – 11 p.m. present moderate risk)
Phone activity (avoiding phone use while driving)
Drivewise considers the driving info from all qualifying drivers on the policy when calculating the performance rating. Qualified drivers are those who complete 50 or more trips.
Troubleshooting
Drivewise follows the smartphone, not the vehicle. So the Allstate® app can detect when you're a passenger in a vehicle. After a trip ends, the data is updated to include the vehicle type (automobile, train, bus, plane or boat) and, for automobile trips, whether the user was the driver or passenger.
Only driver trips will count. If a trip mistakes you as the driver, you can change it in the Allstate app by doing the following:
- Log in to the Allstate app.
- Under Drivewise, select Dashboard.
- Under My Trips, select View All Trips.
- Select Driver to edit the trip.
- Update the trip method.
You can pause your trip recordings by doing the following:
- Open the Allstate® app. Select Profile, then Settings.
- Tap Drivewise to visit your Drivewise settings.
- Toggle Drivewise from “Active” to “Off.”
- Set the auto-restart time frame.
Drivewise reporting will turn back on automatically after the allotted time is selected. If you don't choose an auto-restart time, you'll have to go back into this menu to start recording trips again.

Some things that can impact a smartphone's battery performance include:
- The smartphone age and design
- The driving route and cell signal strength
- Battery health
You can review your battery activity in your settings.
For iOS:- Going to the Settings App
- Selecting Battery
- Scrolling down to review Battery usage by App
- Going to the Settings App
- Selecting Battery
- Tap Battery usage
There are three things you can try if Drivewise isn't tracking your trips.
1. First check to see if your Allstate® app is using the most recent version.
Download any updates in your smartphone's app store.
2. Next, update your operating system.
Updating to the most recent software version will help ensure trips are tracked accurately.
For iOS:
Go to your Settings app and tap General, then Software Update.
For Android:
Go to your Settings app and tap System, then Advanced, and then System Update.
3. Then check for Drivewise updates.
Once you're in the Allstate app, tap the Drivewise section on the Home screen. On the Settings section, check if there's anything that needs your attention.
Note: Don't delete and reinstall the app since there may be some trips that haven't uploaded.
