Drivewise® FAQs

General Program Overview

Drivewise is a program from Allstate that measures your safe driving behaviors and rewards you for them.

Drivewise offers personalized driving insights and rewards for safe driving from the convenience of the Allstate® mobile app. Drivewise will use your driving behaviors to help calculate your policy premium, giving you more transparency and control over your price.

The Allstate® mobile app automatically detects a trip is occurring when:

  • The phone is on and charged (at least 25% battery power), with location services enabled and
  • A vehicle travels at least 20 mph for a short distance

You don't need to do anything to capture a trip. The app will continue to detect trips even if it is closed and running in the background.

You have access to real-time alerts, personalized driving feedback, trip history, and tips to help you be a safer driver and earn a participation discount and Allstate Rewards® points.

You also have 24/7 access to digital ID cards you can view and share instantly, along with policy documents, billing and payment updates, agent contact information, and roadside service.

You may view pricing based on your driving behaviors as fairer and more accurate than rates based on personal characteristics alone.

Driving behavior data will be collected through the Allstate® mobile app. Those who sign up and avoid risky driving behaviors can save on their premium, while drivers frequently exhibiting riskier behaviors could see their rates increased to reflect that higher risk.

The driving behaviors that currently impact rates include high speeds, sudden braking and late-night driving.

Yes! You will be able to earn an ongoing participation discount as long as you remain active in the program. That means taking at least 50 trips every six months. We'll check your eligibility prior to each renewal. You may also be eligible for Allstate Rewards® points, which you can redeem for savings on merchandise, local offers, gift cards, travel and more.

You can save 15% just for enrolling in Drivewise. You'll also get an ongoing participation discount as long as you remain active in the program. This means at least one operator on your policy has taken at least 50 trips before the end of your six-month policy period. Your participation discount will not decline if you stay active in Drivewise, but your overall premium savings from Drivewise will depend on your individual driving behaviors.

Yes. Drivewise will no longer use devices to measure your driving behaviors. You can only participate in the Drivewise mobile program which requires a smartphone and download of the Allstate® mobile app.

Current Drivewise Customers

All new and existing active Drivewise customers in Michigan will transition to the updated Drivewise program at their upcoming renewal.

Drivewise will now use your driving behaviors to help calculate your policy premium (cost of auto insurance), giving you more transparency and control over your price.

  • Performance cash rewards are ending, but if you are in the middle of a performance reward cycle, you will receive a final pro-rated performance reward at your next renewal.
  • You will be able to earn a participation discount as long as you remain active in the program.
  • You can continue to earn Allstate Rewards® points, and any points you've already earned will carry over and be available to use.

You can redeem Allstate Rewards® points for savings on merchandise, local offers, gift cards, travel and more.

This will remain the same. You can find a link through the app or my account to the Allstate Rewards® site.

You'll be able to keep the Allstate Rewards® points you've earned.

You will be automatically enrolled.

Drivewise Device Customers Transitioning To Updated Drivewise Program

With the updated program, Drivewise will no longer use devices to measure your driving behaviors. You can only participate in the Drivewise mobile program which requires a smartphone and download of the Allstate® mobile app.

As an active Drivewise customer, you'll be switched to the updated program at your next renewal. You will now use Drivewise through the Allstate® mobile app and get access to new features like real-time driving feedback, immediate trip information and driving insights.

  • You'll need to activate the mobile program via the Allstate® mobile app to continue participating in Drivewise. You will not be able to switch back to the device, as Drivewise will no longer use devices.

We can ensure that all Drivewise customers have access to the latest version of Drivewise, which includes real-time alerts, personalized driving feedback, trip history, and tips to help you be safer drivers and earn performance rewards and Allstate Rewards® points.

You will get an email notification that your device will be disconnected, as well as a pre-paid envelope with instructions how to return your device.

You should return the device as soon as you can when you get the return envelope, but there is no mandatory return date.

To activate the Drivewise mobile program, you'll need to download or open the Allstate® mobile app, log in and follow the steps to set up the app, and take a drive.

Drivewise Mobile Customers Transitioning To Updated Drivewise Program

If you are actively participating in the Drivewise mobile program at your upcoming renewal, you'll automatically be switched to the updated Drivewise program. Your current driving data will be carried over.

No, just continue driving and enjoy the ongoing participation discount.

When your current Drivewise program is updated at your next renewal, you'll receive a final cash reward, prorated based on your current performance cycle. You'll receive your reward as either Allstate Rewards® points, a check or a policy credit, depending on your payment preferences. Your participation discount will continue in the new Drivewise program as long as you continue to take trips.

You won't see a cash rewards indicator in the Allstate® mobile app anymore, but everything else should be the same. You'll continue to get real-time alerts, personalized driving feedback, trip history, and safety tips.

You must use the Allstate® mobile app to participate in Drivewise. If you are not an active Drivewise mobile user (meaning you have not been sharing driving data for at least six months), you will be unenrolled from Drivewise and won't automatically be switched to the new program. You can re-enroll in Drivewise at any time.

The Allstate® mobile app is free to use. Just search for Allstate in the App or Google Play store and download.
