(Voiceover): I'm David Cohen, and I'm an Allstate agency owner in New York with offices in Brooklyn, Yorktown Heights and Yonkers. I'm here to talk about dwelling coverage, which is a component of a standard homeowners insurance policy.
Dwelling coverage may help pay for the cost of repairing or rebuilding your home after a covered loss.
For example, you may find this coverage offers protection after a fire, windstorm, hail, theft or vandalism.
The storm ripped shingles off the roof and damaged some of the roof beams and trusses.
The damage was so extensive that the entire roof needed to be replaced. That cost over $67,000.
The family was very concerned at the beginning, because they couldn't afford to replace the roof on their own. But, fortunately, their dwelling coverage limits were high enough to cover the cost. After they paid a $500 deductible, everything else was taken care of, and they were able to repair the damage.
