How does uninsured motorist coverage and other state specific coverages work?

In Pennsylvania, First Party Benefits coverage is required and helps pay for medical expenses right after an accident--no matter who's at fault. Both Uninsured Motorist Bodily Injury and Underinsured Motorist Bodily Injury coverage are optional. These two additional coverages protect you if the other driver has no insurance or not enough to cover your medical expenses.

If you are in an accident with an uninsured or underinsured motorist, your First Party Benefits will apply first. If that coverage plus the at-fault driver's liability coverage (if any) isn't sufficient to cover your medical expenses, then your Uninsured Motorist Bodily Injury or Underinsured Motorist Bodily Injury coverage kicks in (if added).

Increasing your First Party Benefits to include lost wages and more and adding Uninsured Motorist Bodily Injury or Underinsured Motorist Bodily Injury coverage means fewer out-of-pocket costs and more financial protection when you need it most.
