Minnesota Graduated Driver Licensing (GDL) Laws

Help Your Teen Learn Safe Driving Habits.

Auto insurance requirements are based on your location.

You can help lower your young driver's risk on the road. Discussing your state's Graduated Driver Licensing (GDL) laws can help set your teen up for success behind the wheel. GDL laws are designed to help young drivers gradually gain experience and skills in a lower risk environment before earning full driving privileges. Research shows these laws can reduce crash rates among new teen drivers by 43%1.

Car crashes are the number one killer of teens in the nation2. Teaching your young driver about road safety could help prevent him or her from becoming one of the 3,000 teenagers killed3 and nearly 450,000 injured4 in motor vehicle crashes each year.
