Learning about safe driving habits and taking the time to get driving experience can help lower your teen’s risk behind the wheel. Because car crashes are the number one killer of teens in the United States 1, it’ important that you and your teen learn about the Graduated Driver Licensing (GDL) laws in your state. Research has shown that GDL laws can reduce crash rates among 16-year-old drivers by almost 43%2.

Graduated Driver Licensing laws are designed to help your young driver gradually gain experience and skills in lower risk conditions before earning full driving privileges. With teen driving information from Allstate, you can help your young driver follow these safety standards.

For more teen driving and GDL information, see the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety's listing of GDL laws.
