Scheduled Personal Property Coverage
Scheduled Personal Property
Scheduled Personal Property (SPP) is a convenient way to help protect your valuable personal property. A certain amount of personal property protection is available under your Homeowners, Condominium, Mobile Home or Renters Insurance Policy, but did you know your personal property protection has limits under these policies?
Scheduled Personal Property is an endorsement to your Homeowners, Condominium, Mobile Home or Renters Insurance Policy. For an additional premium, SPP provides coverage for loss or damage to certain categories of personal and business personal property items whose value or risk potential exceeds the personal property coverage available under Homeowners, Condominium, Mobile Home or Renters Insurance, or under other Optional Coverage Endorsements.
The Advantage of SPP
Did you know SPP helps protect your scheduled personal property almost anywhere in the world?* If the brilliant diamond band you received as an anniversary gift is lost or stolen while you’re traveling abroad, you can recover the actual cash value of your ring if it’s scheduled for SPP Coverage. Please note other restrictions may apply.*
In fact, SPP Coverage is tailor-made to help protect many of your expensive jewelry items. Did you know your Allstate Homeowners, Condominium, Mobile Home or Renters Insurance Policy includes a $1,000 coverage limit for jewelry, watches and furs? It’s possible to increase coverage for these valuable items by selecting Optional Coverage “J” as an endorsement to the above policies up to an overall limit of $25,000. However, a per-item coverage limit of $2,000 to $5,000 still applies to each personal property item you insure with Optional Coverage “J.”
If you own jewelry, watches, or furs whose individual value exceeds the per-item limit of Optional Coverage “J” described above, or whose overall value exceeds the total limit of $25,000 for Coverage “J,” you can schedule these valuable personal property items for SPP protection. A diamond ring appraised at $30,000, and insured for the same amount with Scheduled Personal Property Coverage, is protected against physical loss up to its actual cash value. Please note other restrictions may apply.*
If you own something so rare and precious that there's only one of these items in the world, and if it can't be replaced, SPP may not accommodate that very rare type of personal property.

What Should I Consider?
Evaluate your own personal situation and the personal property you've invested in when you consider SPP as an enhancement to your HomeownersCondominiumMobile Home or Renters Insurance Policy. Here are three ways to think about coverage for your personal property items:
1. Your Homeowners, Condominium, Mobile Home or Renters Policy
Some of your personal property is covered under your Homeowners, Condominium, Mobile Home or Renters Insurance Policy, but there’s a limit to the dollar amount of personal property that’s covered and only certain predetermined risks, such as fire or theft are covered. A dollar amount limit may apply to each item of personal property, as well as certain categories of personal property items. For example, your oriental rugs may be covered up to a certain amount per rug and up to a certain amount for all the oriental rugs you own. In addition, certain categories of personal or business personal property may not be covered such as satellite dish antennas and cellular communication systems.
If you own a musical instrument that you use for business purposes, did you know your instrument wouldn't be covered for its actual cash value when you're traveling or performing away from home? In most states, a $200 limit for property used or intended for use in business while the property is away from the residence premises applies under your Homeowners, Condominium, Mobile Home or Renters Insurance Policy.
In many cases, personal property located away from your residence might not be covered or might have limited coverage.
2. Optional Coverages
Your Homeowners, Condominium, Mobile Home or Renters Insurance Policy offers Optional Coverages that enable you to purchase additional protection for certain categories of personal property items including jewelry, watches and furs, money, securities, silverware, business property, electronic data processing equipment, cameras, musical instruments and sports equipment.
Optional Coverages also include categories not covered by Homeowners, Condominium, Mobile Home or Renters Insurance, such as portable cellular communication systems, lock replacements, satellite dish antennas and business pursuits.
However, with a per-item limit as well as an overall limit on personal property items covered by Optional Coverage Endorsements, you may find you still need additional coverage. For example, what about your new diamond anniversary band or the heirloom bracelet you inherited from your great aunt? The value of each jewelry item may actually exceed the dollar amount limit established by your Homeowners, Condominium, Mobile Home or Renters Insurance Policy, as well as the per-item or overall limit provided by Optional Coverage “J” for jewelry.
3. Scheduled Personal Property Coverage
If you own personal property items with a value that exceeds the limits set by your Homeowners, Condominium, Mobile Home or Renters Insurance Policy, or if the value of your personal property exceeds the per-item or overall limits established under other Optional Coverage Endorsements, consider adding these personal property items as Scheduled Personal Property to your Homeowners, Condominium, Mobile Home or Renters Insurance Policy.*
Personal property items that you insure with Scheduled Personal Property Coverage (SPP) are covered on an actual cash value basis. Please note other restrictions may apply.* In addition, SPP Coverage provides protection for loss or damage to certain categories of personal and business personal property items whose value or risk potential exceeds the personal property coverage available under your Homeowners, Condominium, Mobile Home or Renters Insurance Policy, or under other Optional Coverage Endorsements.
The value of your property will help determine how much SPP insurance you need.  And, you’ll find SPP rates are only a small percentage of the total value of the property you’re insuring.
You can purchase SPP for expensive movable personal property items you may take along when you travel such as a cherished violin.*  If you’re using your musical instrument for business purposes, did you know SPP Coverage provides actual cash value protection for your instrument, up to the amount of insurance purchased, while you’re traveling and performing on the road?
And you can also purchase SPP coverage for personal property you may be storing outside of your residence in a bank, trust, or safe deposit company vault, such as a stamp or coin collection.  You’ll be covered for these valuable personal property items up to their actual cash value.  Please note other restrictions may apply.*
