Little Bit of History
The state of California encompasses 163,696 square miles and is ranked third in the nation's total area. It was the 31st state to enter the union, joining the United States on September 9, 1850. The name California is suggested to have several origins including Spanish, Latin, South Asian and Aboriginal American.
