Employee Case studies

Business Units

Accountancy and Finance professionals are required to work with the Allstate Investment business units which include:

Background Enterprise Processes:
The Enterprise Process Team is responsible for capital accounting, intercompany and other accounting transactions and reconciliations that span across all areas of the Allstate Corporation.

Shareholder Reporting:
This team is responsible for all of Allstate's external financial reporting. This team prepares SEC documents, the Investor Supplement presentation, presentations for the audit committee and reviews all Allstate presentations being used with external parties (rating agencies etc.).

Background Residual Markets:
Allstate as a voluntary writer of auto and homeowners insurance is obligated to participate in state run pools and programs. Each state has their own pool and plan of operations. The Residual Markets team is responsible for processing the premium, claim and expense participation and paying the related assessments, approximately 1,000 invoices, associated with those state pools and programs. In addition, the team also prepares account reconciliations and analysis exhibits related to the state pools and programs they process.

General Ledger Maintenance and Support:
The team is responsible for all FICO, Fixed Asset "FA", and ISCD ledger related requests for updates. This includes account maintenance, report maintenance, monitoring posting periods, running depreciation, security requests, table updates, system configuration for FA module, basic One Recon maintenance, and system balancing.

Investments

The Investments Expense team is primarily responsible for providing timely and accurate investment expense information to support Investments management business decisions and reporting of investment expenses in the external filings made by The Allstate Corporation. We also oversee the payment of department invoices and ensure that accruals are appropriate. The team is responsible for accurate expense allocations to Allstate legal entities and internal business processes. We partner with the Investments CFO to manage the finances of Allstate's registered investment advisor, AIMCO, and partner with IBT to ensure that client billings comply with investment management agreements.

The Banking and Balancing Team is primarily responsible for management and oversight of procedures and key controls that ensure the flow of information between Investment Department applications remain in sync and contribute to the accuracy of management and financial reporting. Additionally, the team ensures that custodial assets including cash and securities are reconciled to positions held in Allstate Investments' bank accounts.

Investment Compliance administers the compliance program for Allstate Investment Management Company (AIMCO) and Allstate Investments, LLC (collectively the Advisers). The compliance program is intended to provide a strong system of controls to prevent violations of federal securities laws and to protect the interests of clients. Investment Compliance must be objective in the performance of its work.

The GAAP and Statutory reporting team is primarily responsible for external reporting on Investments for The Allstate Corporation and its subsidiaries as required by to the Securities Exchange Commission (SEC - GAAP) and National Association of Insurance Commission (NAIC - Statutory). GAAP reporting has quarterly (10-Q) and annual filings (10-K) for The Allstate Corporation, Allstate Life Insurance Company and Allstate Life New York (annual only). GAAP reporting also works on audited financial statements for smaller companies and for the pension plans.

The Private Assets Finance team is responsible for advising and influencing senior management on strategic decisions; reporting on the investment performance of private assets, primarily equity-related; and providing leverage to the investment teams. This team is responsible for analyzing and communicating the historical and forecast performance of the Private Assets Group, including the development of the strategic and operating plan. The team consults and provides direction on structuring transactions, providing leverage to the investment teams so they can focus on transaction underwriting, execution and portfolio monitoring and management. The team works closely with internal partners, and collaborate with external partners, to determine the best approach executing private investments for Allstate.

The Limited Partnership and Real Estate Team The Limited Partnership and Real Estate Team is primarily responsible for accounting and reporting of Limited Partnerships and Real Estate investments. The team analyzes income trends and provides comment to management and works closely with others in Investments to set up new investment deals.
