Over a hundred employees from Allstate Solutions Private Ltd (ASPL) in Bangalore recently visited the orphanage campus at NGO Thayimane in Bangalore to plant trees as part of Allstate's 'Week of Service'.
For many of the IT professionals, it was their first experience of planting trees. The team planted fruit and vegetable bearing trees at an NGO Thayimane on Sarjapur Road so that the children of the NGO can benefit from healthy nutrition into the future.
Over 40 children at the orphanage took part in the event and as well as the tree planting, ASPL's team of professionals played with the children and organized a drawing competition, games and created awareness on the importance of trees to sustain a healthy environment.
13 year old Neeraj who has been at Thayimane since 2006 said,
'It was nice meeting the employees from ASPL as we wanted to know more about the work that they do. We not only got to spend time with them but they also answered all of our questions. One day when I finish my education, I hope to be like them.'
'Planting the saplings, is a small step towards retaining the green cover of Bangalore. It is important for children to learn about benefits of greenery from an early stage and by planting these saplings in their environment, we hope that the children will take care of the plants and enjoy their produce. A sustainable approach that replenishes the environment and supports the well-being of children is the team goal. By getting the children involved, we intend to educate and nurture responsible citizens of the future'
said Chetan Garga, MD, ASPL.
The colouring and painting competition demonstrated amazing creativity from the children as they sketched and painted on various topics. After lunch it was time for the ASPL team to return to the office, with plenty of lessons learnt by the team from this CSR activity.
'We are happy that we saw the other dimension of life which we don't see at our workstations and are proudly committed to social cause & community involvement'
said Anoop from ASPL's CSR committee.
The team plans to make CSR part of their DNA at ASPL and plan to make it a regular activity at least one Saturday every quarter.
