Innovation week.

Fourth Day starts with an external speaker session on Internet of Things

The Internet of Things (IoT, sometimes Internet of Everything) is the network of physical objects or 'things' embedded within electronics, software and sensors, and connectivity to enable objects to exchange data with the manufacturer, operator and/or other connected devices based on the infrastructure of International Telecommunication Union's Global Standards Initiative. The Internet of Things allows objects to be sensed and controlled remotely across existing network infrastructure, creating opportunities for more direct integration between the physical world and computer-based systems. This results in improved efficiency, accuracy and economic benefit. Each thing is uniquely identifiable through its embedded computing system but is able to interoperate within the existing Internet infrastructure. Experts estimate that the IoT will consist of almost 50 billion objects by 2020.

Allstate India celebrates the latest buzz word on the fourth day of the Innovation Week. We had an external speaker session on the Internet of Things, by Naveen Balani, Head of Internet of Things with IBM India Labs.

Naveen spoke about how Internet of Things is digitizing our world, by providing us with prolific amounts of data, and new delivery models that allow businesses to engage in new value creation. He also covered the relevance of analytic intelligence that IoT platforms like Bluemix offer. Understanding the upstream and downstream stakeholders and the role they play in the IoT eco system was a great take away, which helped understand the end-to-end process involved. The use case on connected car resonated well with Allstaters as there are a lot of exciting offerings and work we are doing in that space.

We also had the finals of our organization-wide Domain & Technology Quiz contest today. A few weeks back, we had received around 32 teams' nominations. Close to 96 team members took the prelims test on 25th June, out of which the top five teams qualified to take part in today's finals. We had representation from ETRM, Product Technology, Claims Technology Services, TIBCO and Strategic Resource Management (SRM). The 1 ½-hour final quiz session had total of six rounds. The rounds were Allstate, Insurance Domain, Business & Technology, Visuals, Dumb Charades and Rapid Fire. Each round had few questions for audience as well and goodies were given away. The crowd was excited and cheered teams throughout the session. Innovation Week Quiz winners were Strategic Resource Management (SRM) & Runner up was TIBCO. The winners & runner up teams will get a prize, trophy and certificates
