Meet the Experts
Dr. Laurence Steinberg, Ph.D.
Dr. Steinberg is a professor of psychology at Temple University and the author of The Ten Basic Principles of Good Parenting and You and Your Adolescent: A Parent’s Guide for Ages 10 to 20. He is a frequent consultant on adolescent development for publications such as The New York Times and broadcast outlets such as National Public Radio.

He attended Vassar College, where he received an honors degree and distinction in psychology in 1974, and obtained his Ph.D. in human development and family studies at Cornell University in 1977. 

He also serves on the Advisory Board of the Allstate Foundation Teen Driving Program.

Allan Williams, Ph.D.
Allan Williams is a retired chief scientist for the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (www.iihs.org), whose research on young drivers aided in the formation of the basis for graduated drivers licensing laws.

He is an international expert on the topics of alcohol-impaired young driver and licensing issues and has spoken widely on teen driving issues throughout the U.S. and other parts of the world.

Williams was awarded a degree in psychology from Wesleyan University and obtained his Ph.D. at Harvard University in social psychology. He has received numerous honors for his contributions to the field, including the Widmark Award from the International Council on Alcohol, Drugs, and Traffic Safety, as well as a Public Service award from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

He also serves on the Advisory Board of the Allstate Foundation Teen Driving Program.
