Corporate Giving
Allstate is a company of energized people with great ideas. We are committed to supporting the communities where we live and work by contributing to programs where our experience, partnership and leadership will have the greatest impact. We give financial support to a variety of programs and organizations throughout the country that help create strong and vital communities.
In addition to the numerous organizations and events that we support across the country, through monetary and in-kind contributions, Allstate’s subsidiaries are also the sole sources of funding for The Allstate Foundation, and in 2007 contributed nearly $17.2 million to the Foundation.
Hometown Commitment
Allstate takes a special interest in the greater Chicagoland community, our company’s hometown for more than 75 years. We are particularly invested in this community because we recognize that a thriving hometown is critical to Allstate’s success. We recruit local talent, rely on local infrastructure and depend on the city’s vibrancy to ensure that our associates have a rich quality of life. By supporting organizations that build strong Chicagoland communities, we contribute to the city’s position as a center of global culture, education and business.
Specifically, our $15 million gift to the Chicago Children’s Museum supports the building of a state-of-the-art facility where play and learning will connect for Chicago’s children and families and visitors from around the globe. Our $10 million gift to the Museum of Science and Industry supports the creation of Science Storms a new exhibit being created as part of the Museum’s 21st Century Initiative—a bold plan to leverage the Museum’s unique offerings to foster future scientists and improve public science literacy.
Allstate’s relationships with the Chicago Children’s Museum and the Museum of Science and Industry and the innovative collaboration between the two institutions are the cornerstones of our Chicagoland legacy. They serve as a base for building a variety of Chicagoland partnerships and supporting an array of programs that are positively impacting and enriching our communities.
Employee Giving
Allstate also supports its employees’ passion for their communities by providing additional financial support to nonprofit organizations of their choice through the Employee Giving Campaign. Every year since 1997, Allstate has made it possible for its employees and agency owners to donate to national and local charitable organizations of their choice in the United States. Through our Employee Giving Campaign, Allstate matches 15 cents on every dollar donated by employees and agency owners and contributes an additional 5 cents to the United Way. The company also handles all of the administrative costs associated with the campaign.
In 2007, 26,731 employees and agencies together contributed more than $5 million to community organizations through our Employee Giving Campaign. Additionally, Allstate provided $998,371 in matching funds, for a total of nearly $6.1 million contributed to nonprofit organizations across the country.
The Allstate Foundation
Distinct from our corporate giving activities is The Allstate Foundation, an independent charitable organization funded by contributions from subsidiaries of The Allstate Corporation. The Foundation supports national and local programs that fit within three focus areas: safe and vital communities; economic empowerment; and tolerance, inclusion and diversity. In 2007, the Foundation funded programs totaling $20.1 million countrywide. Program achievements and specific funding guidelines can be found on the Foundation’s area on our Web site.
