Allstate NI is expanding again — lots of new job opportunities in Belfast & L'Derry!

The roles include everything from Developers, Project Managers, Senior Managers and Solution Architects to Network & Voice Engineers and are particularly suitable for people wanting to enhance their career and move into a more skilled role through the positions offered. In the current economic climate, this is a huge boost to the local economy, bringing much needed higher salaries to Northern Ireland.

Allstate has a proven track record when it comes to providing high quality software development services to its parent company, one of the largest insurance giants in the US. It's that track record which keeps attracting higher value work to Northern Ireland, making Allstate, Northern Ireland's largest IT employer.

Bro McFerran, Managing Director at Allstate Northern Ireland said, "We have been selected strategically as the Infrastructure Services Product Operations Command Centre within the Allstate enterprise (US). This is a major endorsement for Northern Ireland and the quality of talent we have been able to provide over the years. If you are an IT Professional, it's an exciting time to work for Allstate with lots of opportunity to develop and progress in a range of modern technologies."

Allstate NI has already recruited over 300 people this year, over 70 through the Bridge to Employment programme for non-IT graduates as well as other trainee programmes in Unix, Project Management, and .Net. Here are some examples of employees who have progressed through the company via training programmes.

Aileen — Oracle DBA

"My Allstate career started 10 years ago in 2002 as a successful applicant on the Bridge to Employment scheme for non-IT graduates, I had studied Electrical and Electronic Engineering at Queen's University Belfast. After a 16 week mainframe training course, I started as a junior developer and spent the next 9½ years working on a wide range of projects and incidents, gaining experience in software development, problem solving and communication skills. I decided to apply for Allstate's Strategic Skills Program (SSP) as a DBA trainee as I had developed an interest in this area over the years. While training we used various educational systems to gain knowledge, including mentoring from team members and classroom training from a visiting US DBA. I am now an Oracle DBA, working with application developers on various types of requests. I am really enjoying my new role. Each day is different and there are always new things to learn. I am pleased that I took the SSP opportunity to broaden my career within Allstate."

Veronica —Application Developer

"Since starting with Allstate, I have been given the opportunity to participate in training in relation to modern application development technologies and training specific to my team. This has enabled me to achieve the necessary skills to become a valuable member of a development team. When I saw the information posted relating to the .Net track, I was instantly keen because .Net development is the most recent and interesting development environment that is being utilized by most IT companies today. I have benefited from finishing the .Net program because it was a well structured and informative course. The training instructors and the content of the course were remarkable which allowed me to complete the course successfully. I enjoy working at Allstate because they have proven to be committed to their Employees and Clients."

Kamila — Voice Services MAC Team

"My first job in Allstate was in the Strabane office as a PC support analyst, supporting technical issues for Allstate's Insurance Agents in the US. After 10 months I was promoted to a Senior Technical Analyst and took part in various projects including stewarding, outage handling and cloud computing. In November 2011
I was accepted on the non-IT graduate program. Since January 2012 I have worked on the Infrastructure Voice MAC (Move-Add-Change) team, working out of the L'Derry office. The Strategic Skills track enabled me to develop my IT skills without being an IT graduate."

David —Specialist Voice Engineer

Started in July 2008 as a graduate developer / Tester
"I started in a graduate role joining the Customer Communication team as a Developer/Tester and progressed to a Systems Analyst within the team. Since joining the company I have gained the following skills: mainframe programming, unit testing, system testing, regression testing, project management, creating technical designs, Business Objects and various Avaya/Voice software applications to name but a few. I wanted to learn a new technology and felt that the Strategic Skills Programme in Voice would allow me to do just that. I started working on the Voice Mac team and I'm now working on the Voice QA testing team, within this team I have been assigned projects ranging from very simplistic to more complex projects."

The company has won many awards for its work life balance, HR, training and talent management initiatives including being an Investors in People Champion. All of the roles come with competitive pay and benefits as well as the opportunity to work flexibly with condensed working patterns and home-working initiatives.
