Accidents happen whether you’ve been riding for 30 years or 30 miles. Good thing Allstate protects you and your bike so you can just enjoy the ride.
The Allstate Rider Protection Project was developed to help make the world a better place to ride. We're committed to addressing the major issues riders are facing out on the road such as motorcycle safety and motorcycle awareness. First up: addressing motorcycle crashes at intersections through our O.N.E. program.
Motorcycle Insurance: What's Really Required?
Two coverages required by law—Property Damage Liability and Bodily Injury Liability—are automatically part of any motorcycle policy you buy.
Property Damage Liability Coverage helps protect you from paying for the repair or replacement of another motorist’s vehicle or property, including vehicles, homes, or other structures.
Bodily Injury Liability Coverage helps protect you from paying medical costs, loss of income, and funeral expenses of other people involved in an accident. Two important notes:
- In some states, bodily injury to a passenger is covered separately under
Passenger Liability coverage.
- In other states, you can pay an additional premium so that Bodily Injury Liability Coverage applies to passengers.

- Allstate Rider Protection Package℠
Allstate Rider Protection takes
motorcycle insurance coverage to
the next level, covering your bike’s
most important feature — you.
- Rising Premium Protection
Accidents happen. Adding
first-accident waiver coverage
means your premium won’t go
up after your first accident.
- Accident Protection
Hit something and your bike probably needs
repairs. Collision coverage typically covers
the damage if you collide with another
object (car, motorcycle, tree, building, etc.).
- After-market Protection
Custom everything? Optional
or Added Equipment coverage
protects you with up to $30,000
of extra coverage.
- Everything Else Protection
Sometimes a bike gets totaled while it’s sitting
parked. Comprehensive Coverage typically pays
for damage or loss caused by something other
than a collision, including theft, fire, vandalism,
windstorm, or hitting an animal.
- Breakdown Protection
Towing & Labor Costs
coverage reimburses you
for towing costs and
related labor.
- Protection From The Other Guy
Sometimes “the other guy” doesn’t have
enough insurance — or (shudder) any
insurance at all. Uninsured/Underinsured
Motorist coverage helps pay your medical
expenses and covers damage to your bike if a
person with little or no insurance hits you.
- Balance Due Protection
What’s worse then totaling your bike?
Totaling it before it’s paid off. Lease/Loan
Gap Coverage typically pays the difference
between you loan or lease balance and
your bike’s worth. Important note: both
Comprehensive and Collision coverages
must be on the same policy.
- Protection From Medical Bills
After an accident, the last thing you need to worry
about is paying your medical bills. Motorcycle
Medical Payments Coverage typically helps pay for
injuries from an accident, including ambulance,
hospital, x-ray, dental, and surgical.
- Replacement Ride Protection
If your ride’s out of commission, Rental
Reimbursement can help cover rental car
costs. Important note: you typically have
to make a Collision or Comprehensive
Coverage claim to take advantage of
Replacement Ride Protection.
- Passenger Protection
Guest Passenger Liability
protects guest passengers
who share a ride with you.
- Trip Interruption Insurance
If your trip is interrupted because of a
collision and you are more than 100
miles from home, you may qualify for
reimbursement of certain meal, lodging,
transportation, and travel expenses.
