In 1999 Allstate took major steps to reposition the company for faster profitable growth. We announced plans to increase access to Allstate products through the Internet and dedicated Client Information Centers. We branched out with new products and channels such as our Independent Agency Initiative, the highly successful Putnam Allstate Advisor variable annuity, and the acquisition of American Heritage Life. In addition, we're adding new technology and services to help Allstate agencies serve consumers better. It all means more ways to Access Allstate, for new products and better service, and more ways for us to grow.
