Ohio troopers to make holiday safety crackdown

Police in Ohio will be on the lookout for unsafe drivers this holiday season

The Ohio State Highway Patrol (OSHP) announced last week it would step up its traffic enforcement efforts during the second half of the month, ahead of what has traditionally been a dangerous time to be on the road.

The law enforcement organization said it will have an increased presence on the state's highways, and will be working with local police departments to crack down on unsafe motorists, as well as those neglecting seat belts or child restraints.

The OHSP's superindentent, Colonel David Dicken, also issued a warning to distracted drivers on Ohio's roads.

"We are reminding motorists that distractions come in many forms ranging from texting, eating, talking on a cell phone or adjusting your CD player," Dicken said in a statement.

A car full of family members can also be a serious distraction to holiday drivers. Parents should have plenty of options for pacifying their kids, particularly on longer trips.
