Report: Simply picking up the phone could yield better car insurance rates
Motorists may be paying considerably more for their auto insurance than they have to, according to an article on the Car Connection website by Alan Dunn.
Dunn says there are a number of commonly available - but rarely pursued - discounts that consumers can take advantage of to lower their car insurance rates. Among the many programs that can potentially reduce rates are discounts for safety devices installed on vehicles, maintaining safe driving habits and a solid safety record, and completing a driver's education course. This last is particularly important for teen drivers, Dunn suggests.
The type of vehicle to be insured can have a lot to do with the rate a motorist receives from an insurer, and Dunn says that hybrid cars are likely to be among those with the lowest car insurance premiums. In addition, pre-paying for a policy can also offer substantial discount possibilities.
Consumers should also be sure to research any applicable local laws to make sure they are complying with minimum coverage and liability requirements, experts say.
