Driving early and planning ahead can help avoid Thanksgiving stress
Thanksgiving may present a lot of stress for families, including travel to meet relatives.
The American Society of Travel Agents (ASTA) noted there are steps to make holiday trips easier. If a family is traveling by car, setting up arrangements well in advance can lessen stress.
Drivers should also have their cars prepared for the commute, as not doing so can cause delays and accidents, which could result in an increase in auto insurance premiums.
"Before any long-distance drive, make sure to have your oil changed and your brakes, fluids and tire pressure checked," the ASTA said.
Regardless of whether they are traveling during the holidays, drivers should make sure they have a winter safety kit in their car. It should include a shovel, first-aid kit, extra blankets and snacks.
Getting started on a trip early can help avoid holiday traffic. The ASTA said the worst time to travel would be immediately after the Thanksgiving feast.
