Allstate Supports Federal Teen Stand Up Act

Local Programs

New York Region

Congratulations on the wonderful work you are doing in your community.  This year, given the serious economic environment, The Allstate Foundation at the regional level is primarily renewing support for existing partners and accepting applications for new relationships mainly in the areas of teen driving and economic empowerment for victims of domestic violence - the two social issues we are championing.

As you might imagine, we get many more requests for support than we can honor with the limited resources available. Thank you for considering us and I wish you the best as you continue your valuable work in the community.

Welcome to the New York Region of Allstate Insurance Company. Below are examples of our recent community efforts. Congratulations to the 2008 Agency Hands in the Community grant recipients!

Social responsibility initiatives in New York

Focusing on Tolerance, Inclusion & Diversity, Safe & Vital Communities, and Economic Empowerment, Allstate partners with a number of organizations to help create opportunities for homeownership, education and to make communities stronger and safer.
  • Allstate is currently working with the University of Buffalo to conduct a violence prevention and intervention program for teens in Buffalo middle schools. The program, referred to as the Allstate Initiative, will "inoculate" vulnerable students against violent and other counter-productive behaviors as they make the transition to high school.
  • The events of September 11, 2001 changed our lives forever. Allstate has partnered with Montefiore Medical Center to provide a truly novel program for disaster preparedness. The "Pediatric Program for Disaster Preparedness" educates people on the procedures and practices for use in mass casualty events affecting children exposed to chemical, biological or nuclear agents.
  • In partnering with Operation Hope, Allstate is supporting the "Banking On Our Future Across America" program, which educates youth on the basics of bank accounts and the importance of credit and investment in their lives.
  • Allstate is supporting the Citizens Committee For New York "Youth-Police Team-Building Program," which seeks to improve police-youth relations by dispelling stereotypes and opening lines of communication.

Among the other organizations Allstate works with locally are: the NHS (Neighborhood Housing Services) of New York City, Buffalo and Ithaca; Habitat for Humanity of the Capital District and Flower City; the Child Abuse Prevention Services; Troy Rehabilitation & Improvement Program; the Worker Ownership Resource Center; Community Development Corporation of Long Island; Madison Square Boys & Girls Club; and the South Bronx Overall Economic Development Corporation.

In addition to our focus areas, Allstate partners with the New York Anti-Car Theft & Fraud Association (NYACT) and the National Insurance Crime Bureau (NICB) to help create consumer awareness on the dangers of no-fault auto insurance fraud, to provide consumer information on how to avoid being a victim, and to educate consumers on the impact of fraud on insurance costs. Allstate works with local law enforcement teams throughout New York to provide education on no-fault coverage and strategies to detect fraud and abuse within the no-fault system.

To help educate children on lifesaving fire safety techniques, Allstate is partnering with fire departments in Syracuse, Yonkers and Rockland County, New York, to purchase mobile trailers called Safety Smoke Houses that are able to simulate real-life home fires. The trailers are taken to schools and community events where fire department and Allstate representatives use the Allstate recognized "Be Cool About Fire Safety" materials to facilitate interactive learning sessions.

What Has Allstate Done in our Local Community?

  • Through Allstate Helping Hands Committees, employees volunteer at several area hospitals and coordinate food and gift drives during the holidays.
  • Allstate employees are also very involved in walkathons and other fundraising activities to help organizations throughout the state.
