Allstate Supports Federal Teen Stand Up Act

Local Programs

Capital Region

Congratulations on the wonderful work you are doing in your community.  This year, given the serious economic environment, The Allstate Foundation at the regional level is primarily renewing support for existing partners and accepting applications for new relationships mainly in the areas of teen driving and economic empowerment for victims of domestic violence - the two social issues we are championing.

As you might imagine, we get many more requests for support than we can honor with the limited resources available. Thank you for considering us and I wish you the best as you continue your valuable work in the community.

Welcome to the Capital Region of Allstate Insurance Company. Below are examples of our recent community efforts. Congratulations to the 2008 Agency Hands in the Community grant recipients!

Social responsibility initiatives in Delaware, Maryland, Virginia, Washington D.C. and West Virginia.

What Has Allstate Done in our Local Community?

  • Allstate, in partnership with the Office of Virginia's Governor Mark Warner, the Virginia Department of Criminal Justice Services and the Virginia State Police recently completed the first phase of a project called KIDsafe Virginia. KIDsafe originated as a project that would enhance the Virginia State Police - Submit a Tip campaign. Submit a Tip provided students the opportunity to anonymously report rumors of school/community violence that might occur within local school systems across the state. KIDsafe Virginia developed into a smart, businesslike approach to the way the state implements and coordinates child safety programs. It includes multiple programs that give young people and adults the tools they need to prevent or respond to dangerous situations that confront too many of our children.
  • The Allstate Foundation partnered with Junior Achievement of Roanoke, Va. and the local Newspapers in Education program to distribute a wonderful financial education publication, called Show Me the Money. This publication teaches children and adults how to become financially prepared for the future. Show Me the Money articles and study samples were designed to meet Virginia SOL standards and many area schools used the publication as part of their math curriculum.
  • Neighborhood Housing Services of Baltimore, Inc. and Allstate have enjoyed a long tradition of rebuilding stressed communities throughout the greater Baltimore metropolitan area. In addition to revitalizing neighborhoods, NHS provides innovative lending programs, financial empowerment education and home ownership and maintenance programs to help homeowners stake a claim in the health and welfare of a neighborhood.
  • The Allstate Neighborhood Partnership Program provides human and financial resources to urban communities in Washington, D.C., Richmond, Virginia, and Baltimore, Maryland. Allstate partners with community leaders to focus on neighborhood revitalization and insurance and financial education.

How About Local Volunteer Efforts?

  • In 2006 many Allstate exclusive agents (EAs) and exclusive financial specialists (EFSs) throughout the States of Virginia, Maryland , West Virginia , Delaware and the District of Columbia volunteered their time to assist non-profit agencies. The Allstate Foundation is pleased to offer $500 Agency Hands in the Community grants, via the Agency Hands in the Community, to recognize the outstanding efforts of qualified EAs and EFSs who volunteer in their communities. The Capital Region looks forward to recognizing the volunteer efforts of EAs and EFSs through the continuation of the Agency Hands in the Community program in 2006.
  • For a number of years, The Allstate Foundation has partnered with the Maryland Governor's Office on Service and Volunteerism, and the Virginia Governor's Commission for Service and Volunteerism, to raise the awareness of the need for new volunteers, to enhance volunteer training, to increase volunteer opportunities, and to thank volunteers for their dedicated service. This partnership supports volunteer services from border to border across both states.
  • A group of Maryland Allstate agents join hands to financially and physically support a homeless shelter for single parents and their children during the 2002 Christmas holidays. With regional office support, each agent contributed equally to resolving the majority of a huge wish list provided by the shelter. In addition, the agents provided Christmas for a few of the families that lived in the shelter.
  • Allstate claim employees support the effort of Christmas in April in Anne Arundel and surrounding counties in Maryland. For a number of years, claim volunteers have exhibited the Allstate Good HandsSM commitment to neighborhood revitalization by increasing their involvement, and by incorporating the support of other community partners to affordably rehabilitate homes and properties for the elderly and those in need. The employees' efforts are also supported by The Allstate Foundation.
  • A Wilmington, Delaware agent works with the Stop the Violence Coalition to promote respect and positive values among Wilmington's youth. Through his work with the Coalition, this Allstate agent has been instrumental in developing mentoring programs, educational and awareness programs, and homeless assistance programs.
