Allstate Supports Federal Teen Stand Up Act

Local Programs

North Central Region

Congratulations on the wonderful work you are doing in your community.  This year, given the serious economic environment, The Allstate Foundation at the regional level is primarily renewing support for existing partners and accepting applications for new relationships mainly in the areas of teen driving and economic empowerment for victims of domestic violence - the two social issues we are championing.

As you might imagine, we get many more requests for support than we can honor with the limited resources available. Thank you for considering us and I wish you the best as you continue your valuable work in the community.

Welcome to the North Central Region of Allstate Insurance Company.  Below are examples of our recent community efforts. Congratulations to the 2008 Agency Hands in the Community grant recipients!

What Has Allstate Done in our Local Community?

Allstate Foundation grants have been given to the following organizations in support of programs that fall within our focus areas:

Indiana

  • Allstate and The Allstate Foundation awarded $20,000 to Junior Achievement of Central Indiana to help fund their new Financial Park in Indianapolis that teaches basic financial planning concepts and economics to kids and gives them the opportunity to apply it in a simulated life scenario.
  • For the past five years, Allstate has supported Junior Achievement in the Ft. Wayne area through financial support and participation in their Junior Achievement Grand Prix race.
  • With the help of an Allstate Foundation grant, the American Red Cross will deliver the "Masters of Disasters" curriculum to elementary school students in the Muncie area. This program is designed to help children learn how to stay safe during a weather-related disaster.
  • Allstate grants and Allstate volunteers are making it possible for the Fort Wayne, Greater Muncie and the Monroe County Habitat for Humanity (the Straw Bale House Project) to build low-income homes in their area.

  • Allstate partnered with the Detroit Police Department's 6 th & 9th Precincts to sponsor "Partners in Safety Day." Held during the annual police week community awareness campaign, the events focus on child identification and fingerprinting, safety awareness, VIN etching and gun safety.
  • We support several financial education programs in the following organizations: Federation of Youth Services (Detroit), Youth Build (Detroit), Created for Caring (Bay City), Haven House (East Lansing). These programs have helped teach local people how to strengthen their financial situations so they may reach their economic goals.

How About Local Volunteerism Efforts?

Many Allstate employees participated in volunteer activities through the company's Helping Hands program in 2003.

Indiana

  • For the past four years, Allstate agents and employees in the Indianapolis area have partnered with the Rebuilding Together organization on their Christmas in April program to provide assistance to people who own their own home, but who because of physical limitation or income, are not able to cover the cost of home repair. On the last Saturday in April, corporate volunteers and skilled tradesmen come together to help revitalize a local neighborhood. The Allstate corporate sponsorship helps buy the necessary building materials to complete the work.
  • The Indianapolis Auto Express (IAE) office recently donated nearly 1,000 gently used children's books to Riley Hospital for Children.  The hospital is Indiana's only comprehensive children's hospital with a Level l pediatric trauma and burn center and serves thousands of children each year.  When employees in IAE heard the hospital was in need of books for their library, donations began pouring in.  Within two weeks, dozens of boxes were filled, and on January 31, 2004, nearly 1,000 books were presented to grateful Riley staff.

Michigan

  • In August 2003, Allstate regional and claims employees partnered with exclusive agencies to spend an afternoon revitalizing the home of a low-income elderly couple. For the past 16 years, Allstate has participated in the annual Paint the Town event held in the city of Detroit. A charter member of the Paint the Town organization, Allstate and other major companies in the Detroit area, have joined together to revitalize neighborhoods by painting and repairing the homes of low-income seniors, physically disabled individuals or those otherwise economically disadvantaged. Allstate supports this event/organization both through employee volunteerism and financial contributions.
  • Sponsored a baseball game outing for kids at the Sarah Fischer Home in Detroit that supports children and families through life crises.
  • Held a book sale and purchased books for Detroit's Thurgood Marshall Elementary School.
  • Purchased meals for Thanksgiving for the Detroit Rescue Mission.
  • Donated holiday gifts to Oakland County's Kids Closet and Greater Grace Centers of Hope.
  • Created Spring Baskets for Greater Grace Centers of Hope.
  • Adopted families during the holidays and filled their food and gift wish list items.

Ohio

  • Collected and purchased stuffed animals to pass out at the Akron Children's Hospital.
  • A group of volunteers assisted the Cleveland USO pack supplies for American troops.
  • Donated phones to the Wireless Foundation's Donate-a-Phone for women's shelters.
  • Donated eyeglasses to the Lions Club International.
    Organized Red Cross Blood Drives.
  • Participated in the MS Walk through the Cuyahoga Valley National Park.
  • Donated to many local charities in the Cleveland and Akron area.

Allstate volunteers throughout the three states participate in local fundraising efforts to benefit organizations like the March of Dimes, the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation, Kym Sellers Foundation, the Alzheimer's Association, the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, Nathan's Battle Foundation, and the American Red Cross.
