Social responsibility initiatives in Connecticut, Maine, New Hampshire, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island and Vermont.

Habitat For Humanity - In Hartford, CT, the “Women’s Build Program” empowers women to positively impact their community by making homeownership a reality for low-income families. Built entirely by women volunteers, this program provides a supportive environment where both women volunteers and the homeowner can gain the confidence and skills they need to enable them to maintain their own homes. Allstate has sponsored homes built by Habitat.

Citizen’s Crime Commission – Partners in crime prevention, the Citizen’s Crime Commission and The Allstate Foundation continue to enhance the quality of life for the entire Delaware Valley, Pennsylvania community through improved safety and security initiatives. Preventing school violence is at the forefront of their efforts. Implemented in over 300 Philadelphia city schools, the Crime Commission’s Tipline allows an individual to call in anonymously if he or she recognizes or feels the potential threat of school violence. Over 13,000 students are involved in the program and continue to strive for a violence free environment. Bringing safety and reassurance to Delaware Valley school children and school staff helps to foster an improved educational environment, which will benefit everyone for years to come.

Boys & Girls Club of America - this continuing partnership supports innovative youth leadership and mentoring. A variety of programs enable disadvantaged youth to become productive members of society by teaching a sense of tolerance and understanding in culturally diverse communities and helps to create self-esteem and empowerment skills. First Lady Laura Bush visited the Germantown Boys & Girls Club (Philadelphia, Pennsylvania) to speak in support of their youth tolerance and anti-violence programs.

Junior Achievement - The Allstate Foundation is making a big difference in Rhode Island with young students. “ JA 4 Kids” is designed to teach the importance of economics and business concepts. Junior Achievement’s elementary school programs are the foundation of its K-12 curriculum. There are six sequential themes, each with hands-on activities, to change kids’ lives by helping them to understand business and economics while strengthening their problem-solving and critical thinking skills. The JA 4 Kids program increases family involvement in the schools by recruiting parent volunteers to go into the classroom and present the program. This year marks the sixth year of the program and has reached over 11,000 Rhode Island elementary school children.

Spanish American Merchants Association - As part of Allstate’s continuing commitment to economic growth and financial freedom, the Allstate Foundation partnered with the Spanish American Merchants Association in Connecticut to provide computer training for small business owners. Created to assist business people, especially Latinos, in acquiring a better understanding economic principles, this program serves as a vehicle for the economic growth of local businesses in the greater Hartford, New Britain, New Haven, and Meridian areas. Allstate believes that as a valued corporate community leader and a long time supporter of economic growth, we must continue to support programs that go to the very heart of economic development and community stabilization.

The PA Governor’s Conference For Women – This non-partisan event offers the women of Pennsylvania an opportunity to enrich their lives, advance their careers, gain insights and motivation in order to grow personally and professionally. Hosted by Governor Edward G. Rendell and the Pennsylvania Commission for Women, the Conference provides a forum for attendees to interact with dynamic speakers who are leaders in the fields of health, media, business, finance and personal development.

National Council of La Raza - Allstate has been a long-time supporter of America’s Hispanic community by addressing issues important to the community such as family, education and economic empowerment. Allstate and the National Council of La Raza (NCLR) are recognizing Hispanic youth that are making a difference in the Hispanic community with the Líderes de Hoy national essay contest, which will award ten Hispanic leaders a $5,000 academic scholarship. This year the National Conference is being held in Philadelphia, PA. Allstate is a sponsor of a booth at the Expo and a Car Dismantling showing how quickly a car can be stolen and taken a part.

Urban League – as a continuing supporter of the Urban League, Allstate continues to empower African Americans to attain economic self-sufficiency through job training, good jobs, homeownership, entrepreneurship and wealth accumulation. For the second year, Allstate was a sponsor of the Hartford (Connecticut) Urban League Black History Reception.

Agency Hands In the Community Grant - In the Northeast Region, our Agents and Exclusive Financial Specialists invest where they work and live. A $500 grant from the Allstate Foundation is given in support of their local volunteer efforts with a non-profit organization. Grants are awarded to non-profit organizations that seek to improve the quality of life in communities across the region such as American Cancer Society, Make-A-Wish, YMCA, National Adoption Center and Academy of Vocal Arts just to name a few! Allstate disbursed 135 grants totaling $67,500 throughout six states (Connecticut, Maine, New Hampshire, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island and Vermont)

Helping Hands Grant – Our Good Hands Promise extends outside our corporate office in our region. For Allstate employees, “You’re in Good Hands” is more than a company slogan it’s a way of life. Through volunteer efforts, employees put time, energy, expertise and compassion behind community projects such as Habitat For Humanity, Make-A-Wish, Adoption Resource Center, YMCA, Colon Cancer Alliance, and Visiting Nurses Association just to name a few!
