Great Lakes Region hit with strong storms

Strong thunderstorms swept through parts of the North Central US June 25 and June 26, 2009, dumping heavy rain, damaging homes, and cutting off power to thousands of local residents. Hail was also reported which caused minor damage to roofs and skylights which in some cases resulted in interior leaks. This storm also consisted of strong winds that downed trees and tree limbs on to homes and power lines and primarily caused damages to roofs, roofing materials, fences and decks. Michigan and Ohio appear to be the states that were the most impacted from the storm system. Most of the claims are concentrated in the Michigan counties of Macomb and Wayne specifically the city of Clinton TWP. In Ohio most of the claims are concentrated in the counties of Butler and Hamilton, specifically the cities of Hamilton and Cincinnati. There are minimal claims coming from Indiana at this time.

A strong storm trekked through the states of Indiana and Ohio June consisting of high winds, hail and lightning. Hail, which was reported to be up to 2 inches in diameter, smashed windshields and dented the bodies of cars in some areas. Hailstones also damaged roofs and skylights which in some cases resulted in interior leaks. This storm also consisted of strong winds that downed trees and tree limbs on to homes and power lines and primarily caused damages to roofs, roofing materials, fences and decks. Most of the claims are concentrated in the county of Hamilton specifically the city of Fishers.

A strong storm trekked through the states of Indiana and Ohio June 2 and 3 consisting of high winds, hail and lightning. North Central Region feel the effects of Southern Storm

The same massive storm front that impacted Oklahoma, Texas and states in the Southern Region also resulted in property damages in Indiana, Ohio and Michigan February 11 and 12. This front consists of extremely strong winds that downed trees and tree limbs on to homes and power lines and primarily caused damages to roofs, roofing materials, fences and decks. Damages are throughout both Indiana and Ohio with some concentration where we have more policyholders, such as Columbus and Indianapolis; Michigan was minimally affected by this storm.

A major winter storm blasted the Great Lakes Region

A major winter storm blasted the Great Lakes Region impacting residents in Indiana, Michigan and Ohio beginning January 28 and expected to continue through tomorrow, Saturday, January 31, 2009.  A thick glaze of ice and heavy snow has snapped trees and tree limbs causing them to fall onto homes and power lines. Thousands of homes and businesses lost electricity during this storm system.

Winter weather grips Mid Atlantic and North Central US

Winter weather swept through Indiana, Michigan and Ohio January 15 through January 20, 2009. This system continued east impacting Washington D.C., Delaware, Maryland, Virginia, West Virginia January 16 through January 20, 2009. This brutal arctic blast with record breaking low temperatures settled over the area causing widespread freeze damages throughout the states. The extreme cold has caused pipes to freeze and burst upon thawing. Additionally, ice encrusted trees and tree limbs have fallen on to roofs, decks and fences. As a result, a catastrophe was declared in these states.

An unseasonal storm system moves through the Midwest, North Central and New York regions

An unseasonal storm system consisting of hail, heavy rains, winds and lightning moved across the Midwest, North Central and New York regions December 27 and 28, 2008 leaving behind widespread scattered property damages. The warmer temperatures and pouring rains caused heavy accumulations of snow to melt resulting in leaky roofs and water in homes. Some areas experienced extremely strong winds that downed trees and tree limbs on to homes, fences, decks and power lines, which caused power outages to some areas. These storms primarily impacted the New York counties of Erie, Niagara and Monroe; the Illinois county of Cook; and the Michigan counties of Oakland, Macomb and Wayne; Counties in Ohio and Indiana and other counties across the aforementioned states have also reported losses, but in less concentration.

Powerful winter storm sweeps the North Central US

A winter storm consisting of wind, rain and frigid temperatures gripped the North Central US starting December 19, 2008 and is expected to continue through December 25, 2008. Properties in Indiana, Michigan and Ohio are damaged due to ice laden trees and tree limbs falling onto buildings and vehicles; downed power lines that knocked out power to thousands of homes and businesses resulting in freeze losses.  At this time, there have been many reports of properties with water damage from pipes bursting when thawed. There are also losses due to wind. A majority of the losses are concentrated in Indiana, specifically Allen County.
