Leftovers from Tropical Storm Lee continued to New York bringing torrential rain and flooding from September 3 to September 8, 2011. There was also a tornado reported in Upstate New York. Property damages are chiefly the result of water entering the home via water back-up and/or wind driven rain and roof damages due to the wind and downed trees and tree limbs. Property damages include moderate damages to roofs, siding, decks, fences and vehicles in the hardest impacted areas. Claims are concentrated in the counties of Albany, Bronx, Nassau, Erie, Saratoga and Schenectady.

Hurricane Irene

Hurricane Irene began impacting the Georgia Coast August 26, 2011 and continued northward pummeling the U.S. East Coast with extreme winds, torrential rains and rising waters through Sunday, August 28 when it made its way north across the northern U.S. border. Irene is responsible for damages in Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina, Virginia, West Virginia, Washington D.C., Delaware, Maryland, Connecticut, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Vermont, New Hampshire and Maine. Losses to homes, vehicles, businesses and boats have been reported.

New York hit with strong storm system

A strong storm system swept through New York August 13 through August 15, 2011. This storm system brought heavy rain, wind, hail and flooding. The hail smashed windshields and dented the bodies of cars in some areas. Hail also caused minor damage to roofs and skylights which in some cases resulted in interior leaks. Most of the claims are concentrated in the counties of Kings, Nassau and Richmond, specifically the cities of Brooklyn, Staten Island and Rochester.

Powerful Storm System Hits New York

A strong thunderstorm, including large and damaging hail, moved eastward across New York state Monday, August 1, 2011. The storm system left damaged homes and vehicles in its wake. The area primarily impacted by the hail was central Long Island, but the storm’s strong winds and lightning strikes were predominantly in the upstate counties of Rockland, Westchester, Duchess and Ulster. Loss reports indicate damages to roofing materials, glass, siding and decks, as well as vehicle glass and sheet metal.
