Catastrophes in New Hampshire
Storm left damage across the Northeastern US

A storm system consisting of hail, heavy rains, winds and lightning hit the Northeast US from August 10 to August 12, 2008.  This storm caused minor to moderate wind and hail damage to homes and automobiles with a majority of the damage being from hail. These storms mainly impacted East and Southeast Pennsylvania in the counties of Lehigh, Franklin, York, Delaware and Chester.  In New York, the areas primarily impacted were the counties of Erie, Nassau, Rensselaer and Queens.  This storm system also caused scattered hail, wind and rain damages in the states of Vermont, Maine, Rhode Island, Connecticut and New Hampshire where trees and tree limbs were downed on to homes, fence and decks; losses range from minor to moderate.

Tornado hits New Hampshire; Northeast also affected

On July 23 and 24, 2008, a storm system consisting of heavy rains, possibly straight-line winds and/or a tornado and lightning severely impacted the five New Hampshire counties of Belknap, Carroll, Merrimack, Strafford and Rockingham, where the governor declared a state of emergency. Pennsylvania, Vermont, Maine, Rhode Island and Connecticut were also affected.  The New Hampshire communities of Deerfield and Epsom were hard hit by the powerful winds that damaged or destroyed some homes and knocked down power lines and trees. Damages in the area begin near Deerfield and continue through to the Alton/Wolfeboro line.
