Violent storms strike Missouri and Kansas

Violent storms swept through Missouri and Kansas May 10 and May 11, 2008 leaving behind much damage. The storm system consisted of high winds, tornadic activity and large hail, that damaged homes and knocked power out to thousands of residents.  Primarily minor to moderate wind and hail losses are reported with isolated severe damages.  In Missouri, storms and tornadoes tore through the southwestern section of the state, specifically Newton and Jasper counties.  As the storm moved eastward, the Missouri counties of St. Louis, St. Charles and Jefferson were also impacted. In Kansas, this storm also hit the southeastern county of Cherokee where tornadoes and softball sized hail was reported.

Storm system strikes Central and Southern US

A volatile storm system swept across Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Kentucky, Tennessee, Oklahoma, Kansas and Missouri May 1 through 3, 2008 resulting in scattered widespread damages ranging from minor to moderate with a few substantial losses. The storm system consisted of winds to 85 MPH, tornadic activity, large damaging hail and heavy rains. The storm knocked power out to thousands in Kansas City and tornado damages have been reported primarily in the northeast portion of the city and in Lawrence.  The counties of Clay, Platte and Jackson were the most impacted by these storms. A Mobile Response Unit was deployed to assist customers.
