Violent Storm System
10/30/09 11:11 AM

A line of violent thunderstorms tore through Northwestern Louisiana and neighboring Arkansas Thursday, October 29, 2009 spawning several tornadoes and dumping heavy amounts of rain. This slow moving system continued to amble across Mississippi, Tennessee and Kentucky through Friday, October 30, 2009. The storm has resulted in extensive property damages, power outages and rising waterways. In many areas the already saturated ground was unable to hold trees upright and therefore they fell on to homes and power lines. The initial areas primarily impacted are Shreveport, Bossier City, Haughton, Plain Dealing and Vivian in Louisiana and Pulaski County in Arkansas.

Strong storms sweep through Southern US
10/13/09 3:50 PM

The southern states of Arkansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi and Tennessee were the stage for a slow moving frontal boundary; cold front from the north pushing against a tropical air mass from the south. The system stretched from Northwest Louisiana through the Tennessee Valley where it unleashed heavy amounts of precipitation and strong winds October 8 through 10. In some instances the over saturated soil could not hold the large trees from toppling on to roofs, fences, decks and other buildings; additionally, wind driven rain found its way into homes resulting in some water damage.
