Little Bit of History

The state of Oklahoma encompasses 69,898 square miles and is ranked 20th in the nation's total area. It was the 46th state to enter the union on November 16, 1907. Oklahoma is derived from the Choctaw words okla and humma meaning land of the red man.

• The world's first installed parking meter was in Oklahoma City, on July 16, 1935.
• Bob Dunn, a musician from Beggs, invented the first electric guitar 1935.

• Oklahoma has more man-made lakes than any other state, with over one million surface acres of water.
