Little Bit of History

The state of Michigan encompasses 97,990 square miles and is ranked 11th in the nation's total area. It was the 26th state to enter the union on January 26, 1837. Michigan was named after Lake Michigan, whose name is a French adaptation of the Ojibwe term mishigami, meaning large water or large lake.
