California Graduated Driver Licensing

Help protect your teen driver by reviewing the California Graduated Driver Licensing (GDL) laws. The GDL laws are one of the few things that have been proven to save teen lives. You and your teen should become familiar with these laws and should use them to form guidelines and rules for your teen driver.


	Insurance Institute for Highway Safety Rating			Good

	Minimum Entry Age (Optimal: 16)			15, 6 mo

	Extended Learner Period (Optimal: at least 6 months)			Has optimal provision

	Parent Certification (Optimal: 30 hours minimal)			Has optimal provision

	Night Restriction (Optimal: 9 or 10 p.m.)			Has the provision but it is not optimal

	Passenger Restriction (Optimal: only 1 non-family member)			Has optimal provision
