Little Bit of History

The state of Arkansas encompasses 53,179 square miles and is ranked 29th in the nation's total area. It was the 25th state to enter the union on June 15, 1836. Arkansas was was named after the French interpretation of the Quapaw (Sioux) word acansa meaning land of downriver people or people of the south wind.
