Three Allstate employees discussing business within their office

Allstate's Belfast Office raises £38,520 for the MRI Scanner Appeal and Cancer Research UK

Employees from Allstate's Belfast Office were delighted to present 2 cheques for £19,260 to the MRI Scanner Appeal and to Cancer Research UK, their designated charities in 2011.

From beard growing, badminton and football competitions, competing in the marathon to more sedate coffee mornings and contributions via the Give as You Earn scheme, Allstate's charity committee engaged as many employees as possible to raise much needed funds.

Nigel Kearny from Helping Hand Charity to the Royal Belfast Hospital for Sick Children said, "On behalf of all the charities involved in the Children's MRI Scanner Appeal, I would like to say a huge thank you to Allstate, the charity committee and all the staff members who got behind your fundraising efforts throughout the year. The Royal Belfast Hospital for Sick Children is the only Children's Hospital in the UK that does not have its own MRI Scanner. Children from all over the Province will benefit from the provision of this facility which would not be possible without the legendary generosity of the people of Northern Ireland. It is clear from this fantastic effort that there is a tangible team spirit and feel good factor among the employees of Allstate NI and we thank you all most sincerely."

Kevin Harper from Cancer Research UK also expressed his gratitude to the company who has supported the charity for a number of years now. He said "More people than ever before are surviving cancer and our charity have been at the heart of that progress. We receive no government funding for our research and we are totally dependent on donations from the general public. Without the support of people like the employees at Allstate Northern Ireland, we would simply be unable to carry on with our life-saving work. Everyone involved should feel very proud to have made such a significant impact in the worldwide fight against cancer. We are very grateful to everyone on the Allstate Charities Committee and to everyone who has generously supported them."

Each year Allstate's employees also take part in Cancer Research UK's Race 4 Life at Stormont, and employees attend their Men and Women's Clinics held at the office in Belfast, providing advice on how a change in lifestyle can greatly reduce your risk of getting cancer.

Bro McFerran, Managing Director gave thanks to the company's charity committee and to all employees that fundraised throughout the year, he said "every year I'm always taken aback by the generosity and the commitment of our employees to raise as much money as they can for our designated charities. I would like to thank everyone who got involved this year, both of these charities are very close to our hearts and we look forward to hearing what our next fundraising activity will be."
